Celebrate the beginning of vacation time at the Grosse Ile Islandfest at the Grosse Ile Municipal Airport, May 20-22, 2016. The main daytime attractions include tons of awesome exhibitors with everything from handcrafted goods to clothes, garden art and more – plus there will be food and rides for all ages. Kids and adults alike can have a blast together playing on the midway or watching the Saturday morning parade. A classic car show, historical tours, traditional carnival rides and more also help you and yours kick off the start of the season – and the Friday evening fireworks display definitely rings it in with a boom. Find lots of fun live entertainment this year, too, like the Grosse Ile Children’s Choir, country line dancing and bands including Persuasion, Howlin’ Mercy, Killer Flamingos and more. Hungry? There’s a pancake breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning at 9 a.m. Tickets are $6 per person or $25 for a family of five. Admission to the event is free, but there are fees for rides and some activities. Islandfest carnival hours are as follows: Friday: 4 p.m.-midnight Saturday: 11 a.m.-midnight Sunday: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. For more details on the 2016 Grosse Ile Islandfest, including directions and a link to the official site, visit the Metro Parent calendar listing.
