Family Events Michigan Elvisfest in Ypsilanti A tribute to the King for the 39th anniversary of his death with this annual Washtenaw County fest, running July 8-9, 2016. « Previous Next » Shelby Stewart • June 29, 2016 Add Comment Total: 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 The King of Rock and Roll is gone, but he has not been forgotten. While your kids may not be dancing to “Jailhouse Rock” these days, the Michigan Elvisfest is the chance to teach them about a music legend through performances and kids activities. Join the fun July 8-9, 2016, when the Elvis fans in the metro area head to historic Depot Town. This event promises to be fun for the whole family. There are more than a dozen Elvis tribute artists who will perform over the two days, so get down to “Hound Dog” and “Burning Love” with your kids. They’re not just songs from Lilo and Stitch! In addition to all of the performers in their sequin jumpsuits, there will be tributes to other artists, such as the Blues Brothers and James Brown. And if you get tired of dancing, there are other fun activities as well. Parents can enjoy happy hour at the beer tent, a raffle and plenty of Elvis memorabilia to purchase. And for the kids, check out the inflatable obstacle course, “make it and take it” crafts and clowns making balloon animals. Saturday, check out the gospel hour from 2 to 3 p.m. – plus all of the classic cars from America’s Most Wanted Car Club. Elvis loved his cars, and you can see some of the ones he loved here. Then, at 10 p.m., join in a special candlelight vigil for the King. And, don’t forget: If you or your kids want to dress up as Elvis or in your poodle skirt, feel free to join in on the fun! Admission to the event is $20/Friday, $30/Saturday and free for kids 12 and under. Come enjoy the annual fest with your kids 5 p.m.-midnight Friday (doors at 4 p.m.) and noon-midnight Saturday (doors at 11 a.m.). You might even make little Elvis fans out of them!
