A much-loved holiday tradition in the Grosse Pointe community will return this month for a morning of family fun and holiday cheer.
The Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade will begin at 10 a.m. sharp on Friday, Nov. 27, 2015. The hour-long parade will run down Kercheval beginning at Lewiston in Grosse Pointe Farms and ending at Cadieux in the city of Grosse Pointe.
“It’s the 40th annual parade so we’re pretty excited about it,” said Jennifer Boettcher, president of the Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce.
The parade’s theme for the year is “A Storybook Christmas,” which emphasizes the importance of literacy. Local broadcast journalist Devin Scillian – also known for his singing abilities and work as a children’s author – will serve as the parade’s grand marshal.
Two floats from the Detroit Parade Company will be featured in the lineup.
“The floats we’ll be getting will not be in (the Thanksgiving Day) parade. People will be excited to see what floats we have in our parade,” she said.
A variety of community partners will also participate, including local Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, multiple area high school bands and more. Mary Reinman, the winner of Grosse Pointe’s Got Talent, will also be part of the parade.
Kids definitely won’t want to miss the chance to see Santa Claus himself as he rides into town on his sleigh with Mrs. Claus. Santa will read a story to children after the parade (free hot cocoa will be served) and he’ll also be available to hear kids’ Christmas lists and take photos.
“We’re planning on this being our largest, most well-attended parade yet,” Boettcher said. “We’re so thankful to our sponsors, our businesses, our residents and our community partners.”
