Kick off the holiday weekend with a trip out to the Freedom Hill County Park in Sterling Heights for the 10th annual Stars and Stripes Festival, June 30-July 3, 2016.
Throughout the weekend, expect plenty of activities for kids to enjoy, such as a petting zoo and the pig races. Also, check out all the carnival rides on the fair grounds. Thursday is Family Day, which means half-off wristbands.
A big draw for this event is the live entertainment. Many shows are in the line-up, including the Classic K-9 Dog show, with shows all four days, and the Rise Above BMX show, also running all four days.
There are also a slew of local bands performing, as well as some bigger names at the Budweiser National Stage, such as Styx on Friday and Metro Detroit’s own Uncle Kracker and Josh Gracin on Saturday. Bonus: all of the concerts are free!
And around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, catch the fireworks. This will be a great way to celebrate Independence Day and close out the fest.
The fair itself is free, but additional fees apply for other activities, like $25/ride wristbands. Concerts are also free, but VIP tickets are available for the three nights of concerts at the Freedom Hill Amphitheatre for Styx, Uncle Kracker, and Seether. For the price of $30 per ticket, you can get up close to the stage for the concert of your choice.
The options for parking range from free to $15. If you park at the Meijer at 34835 Utica Road in Fraser, parking is free with a free shuttle to the festival. Parking closer to Freedom Hill is $15.
Start your holiday weekend with a bang and head over to the Stars and Stripes Festival.
