What would they think if they found out he flew into metro Detroit to bring the North Pole to them instead? While getting a visit with Kris Kringle at his home base isn’t quite possible, the Henry Ford has an option that might feel just as magical. Starting Nov. 25, the historical spot will offer Santa’s Arctic Landing – a new Santa meet-and-greet replacing the museum’s former Holidays in Henry Ford event. Santa’s Arctic Landing is offered Nov. 25 through Dec. 24 at the following times: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday The location is sure to set the right tone for Santa’s special touchdown. The event will be held in the museum’s Heroes of the Sky exhibition, which offers guests a look at the first 40 years of flight. This engaging holiday activity takes kids “on an expedition to the North Pole to visit with Santa,” according to the museum’s website. “As they explore the early pioneers of aviation in our Heroes of the Sky exhibition, they’ll land at the most ideal location for a photo op with the greatest Toy Maker of all time!” Parents are encouraged to bring their own camera to capture their children’s moments with Saint Nick. Wondering the best time to visit to avoid the crowds? The museum suggests weekday afternoons, when the big guy typically has more time to spend with each child. Weekends are busy, they say, and the line often closes by 3 p.m. to accommodate everyone already waiting. Keep in mind that Santa takes a break to feed his reindeer each afternoon so the line will occasionally close temporarily. Santa’s greeter can tell you his return time if he’s not there when you arrive. This southeast Michigan Santa event is free with museum admission. Museum tickets are free for members; for non-members, it’s $19 for seniors (62-plus), $21 for adults (12-61), $15.75 for youth (3-11) and free for children 2 and younger. Parking costs $6 per vehicle for non-members and is free for members. The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation is located at 20900 Oakwood Blvd. in Dearborn.
