And, if you haven’t already figured it out, this Rodeo Burger is not likely to show up in any cooking-light columns (although you could certainly substitute ground turkey for beef to shave some calories). No, this is a burger designed just for Father’s Day. To make the patties divide the meat into four, five or six balls onto a baking sheet, then pat down the meat into discs and season generously with garlic and onion powder, pepper and salt. Top with one slice of deli American cheese. But before you hit the grill, make sure to cook the onion rings according to the package directions. I like to multitask a bit and cook the burgers on the grill while the onion rings are baking. Then, both are cooling while I get everything else together. Warm up the buns by putting them briefly on the grill over indirect heat. Place them on the plates; then, you’re ready to start constructing your daddy-pleasing burger. It’s pretty easy once you have everything ready to go: Plop the burger down first on the bottom half of the bun, followed by a couple onion rings a dollop of barbecue sauce, then a slice of lettuce and tomato. Add a little bit more barbecue sauce to the top of the bun so that it will stay in place – and you’re done. Daddy burger nirvana!
