And these silly scary-looking bite-size morsels also feature some of the iconic flavors of the autumn season, including cinnamon, apples and caramel. Best of all, they don't even require firing up the oven! This fright-night recipe is a creation of ArchitecProducts.com, makers of the Stackable Appetizer Maker. This nifty device, which costs $19.99, includes a main body, "Cut & Carry Base," tamper device to press the dry layers, spreader/serrated knife and a cookbook with 40-plus recipes. With the maker, app assembly process takes about five minutes, manufacturers say, and the pieces snap together when you're done for easy storage (check out this Stackable Appetizer Maker video to get a better visual). Don't have the gadget – or don't want to drop the bucks? No problem. You can also create this recipe old school, using a baking pan (a slim one, such as a bread-loaf pan) or even a cupcake tin. Ready to raid the cupboard and create these treats? Here's the how-to! Supplies Architec Stackable Appetizer Maker – or a slim baking pan, such as a bread-loaf pan, or cupcake tin (for reference, the maker is about 15-inches long, 3-inches wide and 4-inches deep) A spatula, spoon or some device to "push down" the ingredients (if not using the maker) Knife Ingredients Cinnamon bread slices Apple pie filling mixed with diced tart apples Finely chopped nuts (optional) Caramel ice-cream topping Toothpicks Caramel sheets (often sold in packets as "caramel apple wraps") Edible googly eyes (Wilton makes candy eyeballs – or you can create your own with white and black icing) Thin apple slices (for mouths) Directions If using the Architec Stackable Appetizer Maker, place the "Cut & Carry Base" in the main body of the maker. In your container, lay down the cinnamon bread slices, overlapping each slice. If using the maker, use the included "tamp" to very firmly condense the bread. If using a baking pan, use a spatula, spoon or even your hands to press down the bread firmly. Next, layer on the apple pie-filling mixture, then the finely chopped nuts (if desired), followed by a good drizzle of caramel ice-cream topping. Now, repeat another round of all the same ingredients: cinnamon bread (firmly tamp to compress it and the ingredients under it); then apple mix, nuts and one more layer of cinnamon bread. Firmly tamp the stacks again. If using the maker, place a toothpick into each stack to help keep them together. You can also do this, for extra insurance, if using a baking pan. With the maker, using the included plastic knife, cut the treats into bite-size pieces through the guideposts notched into the sides. If you're using a baking pan, slice the treats width-wise into roughly equal parts, going up the length of the pan. (If your pan is on the wider side and your treats are too big, do a final slice down the middle of the pan to create half-size bites). Now, it's time to pop the pieces out. Pull up on the handles of the "Cut & Carry Base" to easily remove the treats from the maker. Or gently tip your baking tins and ease the pieces out, using a knife to loosen them a bit if needed. Lay all the resulting stacks on their sides. Place a pair of googly eyes on each stack, as well as a slice of apple for the mouth. Cut strips of caramel sheets to about 1/4 to 1/2-inch wide. Drape the strips on as the mummy bandages.
