Zoo Boo at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak

The Detroit Zoo morphs into a spooky escape, weekends Oct. 11-27, 2019, to whet families' appetites for Halloween night. Get the details on the annual Zoo Boo, here.

Detroit’s Zoo Boo returns for another year of “merry-not-scary” fun, Oct. 11-13, 18-20 and 25-27, 2019, when families and costumed kiddies can venture the zoo in search of treats and tricksters. Rain or shine, the fun runs rampant.

Be sure your kids bring their own bag or basket to tote all their goodies and keep the candies safe at their sides as they make their way through acts that include acrobatic acts, jugglers, impressive pumpkin carving demonstrations and more.

Don’t miss the Top Hat Side Show for some thrilling carnival acts. And be sure to have your fortune told while you’re there, too.

In addition, there’ll be candy stations set up around the zoo for trick-or-treating, so dress up your munchkins as little gremlins and goblins for a spook-filled night of festive fun and candy.

And the entire zoo will be open this year, too, so make sure you save some time to see all of your favorite animal exhibits.

Beware, this popular event has been known to sell out fast. In advance, tickets are $10 (they go up at the door if there are any spots left) and parking is plus $8.

Children ages 2 and under are free and tickets to the 4-D Wizard of Oz experience is $15/person. The festivities run 3-7:30 p.m. daily. Time slots begin every half hour.
