Celebrating music director and conductor Nan Washburn’s 20th season with the Michigan Phil, this concert is a sampling of some of her favorite pieces from Barber to Hindemith.
Violinist Danielle Belen, Sphinx Competition winner and virtuoso, brings her passionate energy to Barber’s Violin Concerto while Wael Binali draws from his international heritage and social conscious for his composition, Earth, Plunder, Wound, Renewal, Hope – written for the UN Climate Change Conference in 2012. Hindemith’s triumphant Symphonic Metamorphosis packs a big punch, featuring lots of percussion and brass filling the hall, as well as the listener, with true joy.
