When it comes to adorable bears in classic children’s literature, it doesn’t get any better than the one, the only Paddington Bear. A fixture on bedroom bookshelves for more than 55 years, Paddington has been on merchandise, in TV shows and now in his own movie. His accessories are instantly recognizable, especially his suitcase that can hold just about anything. If you’re looking for crafts to do with kids – especially the Paddington fans in your home – try creating this mini Paddington Bear suitcase.
Thanks to a mini keepsake box found in the wood crafts aisle at your local craft supply store, it’s easy to create a suitcase that’s worthy of a nod from Paddington himself. What will children put inside?
- Mini wooden keepsake box
- Brown craft paint
- Alphabet stickers
- Black washi tape
- Craft felt
- Glue Dots
- Label stickers
- Paint brush
Start out by painting the outside of the suitcase with brown craft paint. Let the paint dry and then paint the inside of the box. Let dry once again.
Next, rip off four pieces of black washi tape and place one in each corner of the suitcase. Trim away the excess so that the remaining tape looks like a triangle.
Apply vintage-looking stickers to the suitcase. Check the scrapbook aisle at the craft store and head for the stickers to find labels in all different shapes and sizes. If the stickers pop up from the suitcase, add a bit of glue underneath it and reapply.
To create a handle for the suitcase, cut a skinny rectangle of craft felt and apply on one side of the box with a glue dot on each end.
For finishing touches on the suitcase consider adding tags with well-known Paddington phrases such as “WANTED ON VOYAGE” or “Please look after this bear. Thank you.”
