Halloween Character Pins: Mummies and Frankenstein

It's the second day of October. You know what that means, don't you? The countdown to Halloween is on – and so is the crafting! Maybe your family is enjoying something spooky every day leading up to the 31st. If so, kick off the crafting with two character pins for your children to make to show off their spooky spirit. Using a plain wooden disc as the base, your child can create a mummy or Frankenstein, like we did, or any other characters they can imagine.

Materials

For a Mummy

Start out by creating long strands of white cheesecloth by ripping the material into pieces. The pieces can be skinny in width.
Secure the cheesecloth to the wooden disc with a glue dot. Begin wrapping the cheesecloth around the disc in different directions to cover the entire surface. Use additional glue dots to finish off strands and add more pieces.
Add two googly eyes to the front of the mummy's face with hot glue.
Add a grimace to the mummy's face using a black permanent marker.
Finish the pin by adding a pinback to the disc. When applying the hot glue, apply a liberal amount so that it soaks through the layers of cheesecloth.

For Frankenstein

IStart out by painting both the front, back and sides of another wood disc green. Let the paint dry completely.
To create Frank's face, cut a piece of stiff black craft felt to about 2 inches in length and about 1 inch wide. Give him bangs by fringing one side of the felt with your scissors. Attach with hot glue. Add googly eyes, again with hot glue, and a mouth of your choosing with a permanent marker. Finish the pin by adding a pinback to the opposite side.
