How to Make a Paper Puppet for Valentine’s Day

52

It’s so much fun seeing how a heart shape can be transformed into a variety of Valentine’s Day card and craft designs. The pleasing shape can act as the face of an animal, in place of certain letters in some word art, or in this case, as a cheery paper-made puppet that’s fit for a fun puppet show for the ones you love. Grab some construction paper and those googly eyes – it’s time to head to the valentine theater!

Materials

  • Construction paper in red, gray or black
  • Double-sided tape
  • Wooden craft stick
  • Markers
  • Googly eyes
  • Other decorations (optional)

Instructions

To get started, fold a piece of red construction paper in half and freehand cut one side of a heart shape, making sure to cut toward the folded side to create the full shape. You can make the heart big or small.

Next, cut out two skinny rectangle shapes and two wider variations. These will the arms and legs of the puppet.

It’s time to assemble your character. Using the double-sided tape, add the arms and legs to the back of the heart.

Finish the back of the puppet by taping your craft stick into place.

Don’t forget to give your puppet some personality. Add two googly eyes and a big smile to the front of the heart. Feel free to add other decorations, too.
