Snoopy is coming home – to the big screen, that is! The Peanuts Movie marks the first computer-animated offering of the beloved cartoon gang for a whole new generation to embrace. No matter if you’re a big kid or a little kid, you can probably identify with one of the loveable characters and their recognizable characteristics. For Charlie Brown, there’s probably nothing more identifiable than his yellow zigzag T-shirt. You can make your own Charlie Brown T-shirt to wear to the movie theater to show off your Peanuts style and pride.
- Plain yellow T-shirt
- Freezer paper
- Black craft paint
Prep your T-shirt for crafting by washing and drying it per the manufacturer’s instructions. Give it a quick press with your iron so it’s ready for decorating. Once that’s done, rip off a sheet of freezer paper that’s just slightly wider than the shirt itself. Make a small hash mark on either side of the paper – this is where you’ll start and end your zigzag, in the next step, so that when you cut out the stencil it’s one piece instead of two.
Next, it’s time to make your best zigzag shape! Draw the top and bottom of a zigzag along the width of the freezer paper. When the drawing is done, cut out the center of the zigzag. Remember: don’t clip the sides of the stencil!
Over at your ironing board, place the stencil onto the T-shirt. Gently move your iron back and forth to adhere it to the fabric.
With your stencil ironed onto your shirt, it’s time to paint! Insert a few pieces of cardstock into the shirt to prevent any paint from bleeding onto the back of shirt. Place a piece of paper under the shirt, too, to keep any paint from accidentally getting on your work surface. Work your way across the stencil area with the paint. You don’t need a lot of paint to fill in the space. Try painting the stencil edges first and then fill in the middle to help create the crispest lines possible.
Once you’re done painting, gently peel off the paper and discard the stencil. Let the shirt dry while lying completely flat. Heat set the paint per the manufacturer’s suggested instructions.
