New Year's Noisemakers Craft for Kids

Last year during the holidays we shared a tutorial for upcycling an empty cheese snack container into a colorful gift box. This small, circular container is so versatile that it didn’t take long to realize it had another place among 2016’s holiday crafting – turning into a New Year’s Eve noisemaker! Instead of filling this cute container with chocolates, you’ll be filling it with lentils to help you ring in 2017.

Materials

  • Empty Laughing Cow container
  • Silver craft paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Tacky glue
  • Silver duct tape, 3/4″ wide
  • Dry lentils
  • Craft embellishments: scrap papers, stickers, stamps, etc.

Instructions

To get started, remove the paper stickers on the outside of the container. Paint both the top and bottom lids with silver paint and let dry. Don’t worry about needing to paint the inside – you won’t see it once the noisemaker is complete!

Next, fill the container with lentils until it’s about 1/4 full. You don’t want to add to many as it makes it harder to shake! Apply a line of tacky glue on the outside of the container’s rim. Place the top of the container back on and let dry.

To make sure your noisemaker is extra secure, add a ring of duct tape to the seam. Try using the Duck Brand Duckling rolls for just the right size.

With your noisemaker full, it’s time to decorate it! These paper scraps were punched into a few different sizes to create polka dots on our noisemaker. Add a festive New Year’s stamp to make it official for your party needs later this month!
