Aretha Franklin Exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum

The Detroit Historical Museum hosts a temporary Aretha Franklin exhibit honoring the Queen of Soul Oct. 26, 2018 through the summer of 2019.

Were you heartbroken by the passing of the Queen of Soul? It was a big loss for the world’s music community and the city of Detroit – but it also inspired the Detroit Historical Museum’s newest temporary art exhibit, Aretha Franklin (1942-2018), which opens to the public Oct. 26, 2018 and runs through the summer of 2019.

At this exhibit, fans of the late and great soul singer and performer can stroll the museum’s galleries to learn about her life, which began singing gospel at church in Memphis Tennessee, and how her pipes impacted Detroit’s music scene.

In addition, families can view some of Franklin’s personal items and view albums, costumes, artwork and other items from the Detroit Historical Society’s collection.

This historical attraction also features a cement cast of her handprints, which were taken last summer.

The Aretha Franklin exhibit debuts Oct. 26, 2018 and remains open through the summer of 2019 at the Detroit Historical Museum – a couple blocks away from The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, where her public viewing took place.

Admission to the museum is free and hours are as follows:

  • 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday
  • 10 a.m.-Saturday-Sunday
  • Closed Monday

Parking is available for $9 in the Kirby Street lot, which is adjacent to the museum.
