Do-it-yourself projects have become increasingly popular and fun – so much so that there is a street fair in Ferndale celebrating it. The DIY Street Fair features over 150 artists and crafters in the three-day event, running Sept. 20-22, 2019.

This 12th annual September festival showcases artists of many crafts, including, but not limited to:

  • Folk art
  • Graffiti art
  • Sculpture
  • Printmaking
  • Photography
  • Metalsmithing
  • Masks
  • Henna
  • Pet Supplies
  • Novelties

The criteria for the artists include the work being original, unique and hand-crafted, so these objects may be once-in-a-lifetime purchases, making this free event a great experience.

And the art isn’t the only draw either. In the Kids Zone, families will find DIY crafts and yoga for kids, pop-up dance performances, face painting and puzzle workshops. Plus, costumed superheroes will be there to visit with kids and collect toys for those who have suffered acute abuse.

Hungry? No problem! Food vendors will be all over the place, so head to one of the many stations for a taste of metro Detroit.

In addition to all of that, there will be music performances all weekend long, so there will be plenty to keep you entertained.

The festival will be located off of Woodward Avenue between East Nine Mile Road and East Troy Street behind Woodward Avenue Brewers and The Emory.

There is plenty of time to come see all the amazing artists and crafters, so make a day out of it and bring the kids to see all of the cool DIY projects. Check it out at the following times:

  • 6 p.m.-midnight Friday
  • 11 a.m.-midnight Saturday
  • 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday
