Paint the town red, white and blue at Stony Creek Metropark in Shelby Township on June 23, 2017 at the Fireworks at the Metroparks event, a five-county celebration for the entire family.
The award-winning Greenwood Farms Clydesdale Horses are joining the festivities again this year. Before the fireworks begin, families can meet and take pictures with these champion horses.
Concession food is catered by Kosch and will be available for purchase at the park. Choices include kid-friendly light meals like nachos, fountain drinks, hamburgers and hotdogs. If your little one is especially picky or just prefers a home-cooked meal, coolers are allowed into the park. Parents beware: while alcohol is allowed in park, no glass bottles are permitted.
Kids can ooh and ah at the fireworks that begin at 10 p.m. and last around half an hour, according to Stony Creek staff. Sparklers – or any type of firework – from home are not allowed.
Before the fireworks, kids can enjoy the various recreational activities offered at Stony Creek Metropark, which include paddle boating, disc golf and swimming. Activities close at their standard times.
Be sure to arrive early to the park to secure a prime spot to view the fireworks and a good parking spot. The best places to watch the fireworks are the areas where you can see the lake, according to Stony Creek staff. So come early with folding chairs at the ready!
There is no admission fee for the fireworks, but families have to pay per vehicle. It costs $10 per vehicle before 5 p.m. and $15 after 5 p.m.
