Motor City NYE at Beacon Park in Detroit

Celebrate the incoming New Year with tons of family-friendly fun, including a ball drop, in Detroit's Beacon Park, Dec. 31, 2017.

Is Times Square a little out of your reach for your New Year’s Eve celebrations? Well, you can have the New Year’s Eve you’ve always dreamed of right here in the metro Detroit during the annual Motor City NYE at its new location in Beacon Park on Dec. 31, 2017.

This annual ball drop and New Year’s Eve party kicks off 2018 in style starting at 4 p.m. Gather in and around Beacon Park, Detroit’s newest public greenspace, for live music and entertainment – including an appearance by Detroit’s very own Motown legend, Martha Reeves, the Detroit Youth Choir and others.

And don’t worry about finding a babysitter for the kids before you make your way out, either. This family-friendly event features a Kids Zone that is jam-packed with fun games and entertainment like kids’ karaoke, live music, carriage rides, face painting. And, of course, a kids’ ball drop at 6:30 p.m.

Grown-ups find even more during the annual VIP party, which features adult beverages, dancing and fire pits. The Grand Celebration Party Pavilion that hosts this event is open to kids and families until 7 p.m. and adults only starting at 8 p.m.

You’ll also find vendors, plenty of food trucks, acrobats, fire-jugglers, the eight-foot tall light-up Detroit Kryo Man, Ghostbusters Detroit; and, if you register ahead of time, the annual “Light Up Detroit” Lighting Spectacle, at which spectators get LED light tubes to wave during the “Light Up Detroit” theme song.
