Downtown Detroit’s urban oasis, Campus Martius Park, turns to a winter wonderland every year in mid-November when the ice rink opens. Following the Nov. 18, 2016 tree lighting, when thousands of Detroiters and suburbanites meet in the park to see the Christmas tree all aglow, skate and keep toasty with some warm grub through the winter season.
Even if you can’t make the grand opening, don’t sweat it! This outdoor ice rink, modeled after the one at Rockefeller Center in the Big Apple, is open for daily until March 7, 2017 this 2016-17 season.
Day and evening hours let you chose the perfect time for the entire family to practice their figure eights or experiment their very first glides.

Once the tummies start to rumble, stop by one of the many eateries within walking distance. The Fountain Bistro is located at the edge of the ice rink, and Greektown’s only a People-Mover ride away. Stop by the Calexico Detroit, Hard Rock Cafe Detroit and more.
Rent skates for $3, or bring your own and stash your shoes for $2. Admission rates for skaters are $8/ages 13-49, $7/ages 12 and under and adults 50 and above.
