Is your kid into Anime? Then take them to Detroit for Youmacon 2018, the city’s first Anime convention, for a unique brand of “Comic Con” that brings fans together to celebrate all aspects of Japanese pop culture, Nov. 1-4, 2018.
This convention kicks off at 8 p.m. on Thursday and runs continuously, 24 hours a day, to 6 p.m. Sunday afternoon, and features everything from workshops to Q&A and autograph sessions with your favorite anime artists.
Prepare a skit and come dressed up as your favorite anime character for the Cosplay competition Friday and Saturday. Cosplayers can enter into one of five skill level categories. There’s competitions for novices, masters and even kids (advance registration required).
You can also watch some local talents test their voices at the Youma Idol singing competition and even watch some of the best works of Anime, Japanese music and stories at the Fan Art Theater.
And of course, find food and vendors, too.
Youmacon 2018 runs 24 hours a day from 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4 at both the Cobo Center and the Detroit Marriott inside the Renaissance Center in Detroit. Admission is $40 on Friday, $50 on Saturday and $30 on Sunday.You can also purchase a weekend pass in advance for $70. You can get your day passes online or at the door, but be aware that door purchases must be paid in cash.
Kids under the age of 18 must complete and turn in a parental consent form upon registration.
