Dog Parks in Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor

If your pooch has tons of energy, let them run and play at one of these dog parks in metro Detroit and Ann Arbor.

Dogs of all sizes love to be outdoors, but not everyone has a yard for them to play. However, there is a solution to this problem: These dog parks in metro Detroit and beyond are a perfect place for your fur baby to enjoy playtime, exercise and socialize.

Some of these parks are free, some are not, but all are available for enjoyment by you and your dog. Grab a leash and some shoes and head off to adventure with your furry friend.

Anne Fracassa Memorial Dog Park (in Burdi Park)

Located in the southwest corner of Burdi Park, this one-acre doggie paradise is enclosed by a 6-foot fence and features a water spigot, pooper-scooper bags, park benches and secure access.

Users must submit proof of licensure, vaccines and an application to the city clerk’s office for the park’s key code. Find the application at the city’s parks and recreation office or online.

Balduck Park

This park is known as an “unofficial dog park” among Wayne County dog owners. It features wooded trails for nature walks and open fields for dogs to run.

Behnke Memorial Dog Park 

This one-acre park has plenty of room for non-aggressive dogs to run around off their leashes. Features include a tire obstacle course, faux fire hydrant, trees, clean up stations and people/pet drinking fountain.

Bicentennial Park

This long-awaited park features designated small and large dog areas, an agility course, doggie drinking fountains and waste stations, and benches for pet-parents to watch their furry friend from. Dogs must be licensed.

Broadway Park

  • Address: 800 Broadway St., Ann Arbor
  • Hours: 6 a.m.-10 p.m. daily
  • Cost: $25/annually for one dog, $35/annually for spayed or neutered dog, $10/additional dogs, $5/additional spayed or neutered dog

Has a designated area for large and small dogs. Must have an off-leash permit to let your dog(s) off the leash.

Cady Street Dog Park

  • Address: Behind the Northville Art House, 215 W. Cady St., Northville
  • Hours: 9 a.m.-8 p.m. or dusk (whichever is earlier) Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. or dusk (whichever is earlier) Saturday-Sunday
  • Cost: $30/residents, $60/non-residents, $20/FOB deposit, $12/extra dog (up to three)

Find .7 acres for your pooch to run and play on. All dogs must be up-to-date on shots and licensed. Take the required education session and get your FOB at the parks and recreation office.

Clinton Township Dog Park

  • Address: 40700 Romeo Plank Road, behind the senior center in Civic Center Park, Clinton Township
  • Hours: Dawn-9 p.m. or dusk (whichever is earlier)
  • Cost: $16/Clinton Township resident, $14/resident seniors, $34/nonresident, $3-/nonresident senior; park key: $10

Your pooch will enjoy 1.5 acres of grassy playing area, complete with drinking fountains for dogs and their humans, pet waste bags and benches. Dogs of all sizes and kids 5 and older are welcome with an accompanying adult. Licensure and proof of vaccinations is required. Bring the appropriate paperwork to the parks and recreation department to get your park pass.

Community Park Dog Park

This park offers four acres for your dog to run around and play on. All dogs must be up-to-date on shots and licensed. Take the required education session and get your FOB at the parks and recreation office.

Daisy Knight Dog Park

Owners must clean up after their own dogs and should never be left unattended. All pets must be up to date on vaccines and registered with the county they reside in.

Dearborn Dog Park 

  • Address: 16301 Michigan Ave., Dearborn
  • Hours: 8 a.m.-8 p.m. March 16-Dec. 14, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 15-March 15
  • Cost: $30/first dog, $10/second dog (The park is for Dearborn residents only)

Pet parents find two divided areas, one for large dogs (30 pounds and more) and the other for smaller dogs. Each area offers benches, dog waste bags and dog agility equipment, including elevated platforms, walk ramps, hurdles, teeter totters and barrels. Dogs must be licensed, spayed or neutered and be up-to-date on vaccinations.

Ferndale Dog Park

This spot features all kinds of amenities including separate areas for large and small dogs, a built-in cement drinking bowl, dog-themed benches, urine resistant shrubbery, and more.

A key fob is required to access to the dog park. To register, residents are asked to complete a one-time dog behavior course. Dogs must be up to date on vaccinations and licensed to enter.

Friends of Canton Dog Park

Dogs can run around on six acres of fenced-in space. The park is divided in two sections: one for dog over 20 pounds and another for dogs under 20 pounds. Visit the Canton Township Clerk’s Office to register your dog. Registration tags are valid through Dec. 31 and must be renewed annually. Children ages 6-17 are welcome, too, with parents.

Grosse Pointe Farms Dog Park

This park is opened to Grosse Pointe residents and you must register for your pass at City Hall. Dog owners are responsible for watching their dog.

Karner Farm

  • Address: 5911 Halsted Road, West Bloomfield
  • Hours: 8 a.m.-8 p.m. daily (Closed 8-11 a.m. on Wednesdays for maintenance)
  • Costs: $30/resident, $60/nonresident, $35/security deposit

This four-acre off-leash play area is perfect for the dog that likes to run and play. The park is broken up into three sections. Pet parents are welcome to bring their fur baby’s favorite toys, but should be aware that Fido may not want to share. A copy of your dog’s license and proof of vaccinations (must include Bordetella) are required. You must complete the online orientation video and have a valid driver’s license to gain access.

Lincoln Hills Dog Park (formerly Birmingham Dog Park)

  • Address: Lincoln Hills Golf Course, 2666 W. 14 Mile Road, Birmingham
  • Hours: 6 a.m.-10 p.m. (except Wednesdays noon-10 p.m.)
  • Cost: $50/annual resident, $200/annual nonresident (cash or check only)

You’ll find this 0.85-acre canine paradise securely fenced on the southeast edge of Lincoln Hills Golf Course. Dogs must be licensed and vaccinated. Complete a dog-pass application to obtain a key fob.

Lyon Oaks Dog Park

  • Address: 52251 Pontiac Trail, Wixom
  • Hours: Dawn-dusk daily
  • Cost: Daily: $5/resident vehicle entry, $12/nonresident vehicle entry; annual $30/resident, $48/non-resident

You’ll find 13 acres of space for your large dog to run, and an area for smaller companions to play. Find benches, shelters, picnic tables, a water fountain, and even a field training area to teach your dog some new tricks. All dogs must wear their license at all times. Dogs must be up-to-date on their vaccinations and respond to voice commands.

Maloof Statler Dog Park inside of Herman Brys Park

This fenced-in dog park has a main park area for bigger dogs separated from the “wee doggie” area for smaller dogs. Find benches for pet parents, water fountains and a shade structure. Kids 5-17 are welcome with an adult.

Bring license and vaccination paperwork to the city’s parks and recreation department to get your key fob. New members must take at least one etiquette class prior to key activation.

Mark Twain Park

This park offers a large fenced-in area for bigger breeds to run and a smaller fenced-off area for smaller breeds and older dogs to play and relax. Drop off proof of shots and a copy of current license to the city clerk’s office to get your pass. Up to three dogs are allowed per pass.

Midtown Detroit Dog Park

Bring your furry friend to this free-of-charge park for some air, exercise and off-leash fun, courtesy of Shinola. Dogs must be vaccinated and licensed.

Novi Dog Park 

  • Address: Behind the Novi Ice Arena, 42390 Nick Lidstrom Drive, Novi
  • Hours: 8 a.m.-9 p.m. or dusk (whichever is earlier) daily
  • Costs: $20/one-time key fob deposit, $30/residents, $60/nonresidents, $12/additional dog (limit of three per household membership)

This double-gate enclosed park offers three acres for your dog to run and play, plus a tree-quarter-acre section set aside for smaller or more timid dogs. There are water fountains for dogs and humans, dog waste stations and benches, too. Complete the online application process and bring proof of vaccinations and licensure to the city’s park and recreation department to register.

Old Hines Park Dog Park

This park has lots of room for your pup to run around. Make sure to clean up after them.

Olson Dog Park

  • Address: 1505 Dhu Varren Road, Ann Arbor
  • Hours: 6 a.m.-10 p.m. daily
  • Cost: $25/annually for one dog, $35/annually for spayed or neutered dog, $10/additional dogs, $5/additional spayed or neutered dog

Find tons of space for your furry friend to run and play at this community park. Dogs must be vaccinated and licensed. Register with the city clerk’s office.

Orion Oaks Dog Park

  • Address: 1200 Joslyn Road, Lake Orion
  • Hours: Dawn-dusk daily
  • Cost: Daily: $5/resident vehicle entry, $12/non-resident vehicle entry; annual: $30/resident, $48/non-resident

This 24-acre, fenced-in park offers plenty of space for larger dogs to run and play along with a spot for smaller dogs, too. You’ll also find two trails, a picnic shelter, drinking water and waste bags. There’s even a dogs-only lake and dock for your pooch to frolic in the water.

Paw Run Dog Park

  • Address: 5365 N. Territorial Road, Dexter
  • Hours: 7 a.m.-dusk daily
  • Costs: $20/registration, $4/day pass, month-to-month dues: $25/dog, $10/additional dog; four-month dues: $80/dog, $20/additional dog; annual dues: $220/dog, $50/additional dog

Paw Run is 18 fenced-in acres that remains in its natural state. Your dog will love running through the tall grass, playing in the agility yard and swimming in the pond in the mowed play area. All dogs must have current rabies and HDLP vaccinations and pass a temperament test before park entry. High-risk fighting breeds are not allowed. Three dogs allowed per handler.

PetSmart P.U.P. Detroit Dog Park

Thanks to the generous donation from PetSmart, dogs of all ages, breeds and sizes can run and play in this enclosed park right in the heart of Corktown. All dogs must be in compliance with licensing and registration of their municipality and updated on their vaccines. Benches are available for pet parents.

Pioneer Dog Park

  • Address: 7505 Hahn St., Utica
  • Hours: Dawn-dusk daily
  • Cost: Daily: $25/Shelby Township and Utica residents, $30/non-residents

Membership is good from one year of purchase or renewal. Owners are responsible for their dogs and they must be on a leash at all times. Dogs must have current immunization records and license on file with the Recreation office at all times. Must clean up after pets, too. Children 5-17 must be accompanied by an adult while visiting the park.

Red Oaks Dog Park

  • Address: 31353 Dequindre Road (adjacent to the Red Oaks Waterpark), Madison Heights
  • Hours: Dawn-dusk daily
  • Cost: Daily: $5/resident vehicle entry, $12/nonresident vehicle entry; annual $30/resident, $48/non-resident

This 5.2-acre spot offers fenced in enclosures for big and small dogs and a shelter area for their parents, too. Dogs must be licensed and vaccinated. Park areas are rotated seasonally; check ahead to find out which spot is open.

Riverside Park

Offers the largest dog park in the city. Also has a 20,000 square foot skate park, playground for the kiddos, softball diamond, soccer field, picnic area, more.

Saline Dog Park at Mill Pond Park

You’ll find this one-acre dog park nestled inside the 54-acre Mill Pond Park. The dog park is enclosed on three sides, with access to the Saline River on the fourth side, for those water-loving dogs. You’ll find play structures for kids nearby and nature trails for some leashed walks with Fido, too.

Swift Run Dog Park

  • Address: Ellsworth and Platt roads, Ann Arbor
  • Hours: Dawn-dusk daily
  • Cost: $50/annually for one dog, $35/annually for spayed or neutered dog, $10/additional dogs, $5/additional spayed or neutered dog

Find a separate small dog area, large, grassy fields and benches at this 10-acre, fenced-in space. Water is not provided so be sure to bring along your pup’s water bowl and a few bottles of water. You’ll also need bags to clean up after your dog.

Visit the city clerk’s office (or Washtenaw County Treasurer’s office) with proof of licensure, vaccinations and application for an off-leash permit to register your dog.

Wayne County Dog Park (at Hawthorne Ridge Park)

This three-acre park is split for large and small dogs. Find secure entry, drinking water and plenty of room for your pooch to run. Bring your dog’s license and proof of vaccination to the Wayne County administration offices to get your annual pass card.

William Grace Dog Park

  • Address: 29040 Shiawassee Road, Farmington Hills
  • Hours: March-April and Sept.-Oct.: 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday-Sunday; May-Aug.: 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday-Sunday; Nov.-Feb.: 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday
  • Cost: $35/year, $10/additional dog

Your dog can run around and play with others at this community park. New members must register at the Costick Activities Center and watch an orientation session prior to their first visit. All dogs must be licensed and vaccinated.

Wyandotte Dog Park

Offers two sections – one for small dogs and one for large dogs. There are benches, drinking fountain, dog wash station, picnic tables and more. Dogs must be vaccinated.
