Three local teens who volunteer at the Humane Society of Huron Valley were recently recognized for their efforts to improve the lives of animals in the community.

The shelter’s 2018 Humane Youth Award (its first-ever!) went to Claire Roffi, 16, of Novi, who helps socialize shy dogs at the shelter, volunteers for Last Day Dog Rescue and raises money for other animal rescues.

Runners-up are volunteers Emilia Callan, 17, and Kaitlin Barrett-Huff, 16, both of Ann Arbor.

“We are thrilled to publicly acknowledge teens who lead by example, one act of kindness at a time,” says Karen Patterson, director of volunteers and humane education at HSHV.
