In our house, “buckeyes” isn’t a term for a team in Ohio. It’s one of our favorite holiday treats. And this peanut butter buckeyes recipe is one our kids can help us make, too.
These chocolate-covered peanut butter balls are something that my mother-in-law made for my husband’s family for years. Now, they’re something my kids look forward to each holiday season.
The kids help us mix the ingredients, shape the balls and dip into the chocolate. This dessert requires no baking, so there aren’t any hot ovens or cookie sheets to worry about. In the tradition of truffle recipes, just mix, dip and let the chocolate harden, then enjoy.

- 1 1/2 sticks butter or margarine
- 1/3 box graham crackers, crushed (about 1 cup)
- 1 lb. powdered sugar
- 2 cups creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 stick paraffin wax (or 2 Tbsp. Crisco)
- 1 12 oz. package semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Mix sugar and graham crackers.
- Add melted butter and peanut butter.
- Shape into 1-1 1/2-inch balls and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Put chocolate chips and wax or Crisco in a microwave-safe bowl, set to medium power and cook for 30-second increments.
- Stir and repeat until completely melted.
- Using a toothpick, dip balls into chocolate, making sure a round circle of peanut butter is still visible on the tops of each.
- Set on wax paper to cool.
- Store in a cool, dry place.
