Black Friday the day of deals. After finishing up Thanksgiving dinner (or – let’s be real – before that even), bargain hunters can get a jump on their holiday shopping online or in stores. And in 2019, there are plenty of Black Friday deals to be had by parents in metro Detroit and Ann Arbor.
From doorbusters to deals on toys, home goods and electronics, retailers and e-tailers are offering a variety of sales that begin as early as the Wednesday before Turkey Day.
Here, Metro Parent hooks you up with where to find the big discounts of 2019, as well as some of the best Black Friday deals for moms, dads and kids this year.
When are the sales in 2019 – and where?
Black Friday ads for several of the most popular stores are available at BlackFriday.com. The ads feature items available in store and online.
Many retailer websites offer discounted or free shipping with Black Friday purchases, so check each store’s website before placing orders.
Online retail giant Amazon.com doesn’t have a specific Black Friday ad, but it plans to post deals throughout the day. The site is also offering free shipping with no minimum purchase for the holidays.
As far as the major big-box chains, here’s an overview of hours and in-store vs. online details for this year:
- Best Buy offers most of its Black Friday deals online, with the exception of several televisions. Best Buy opens at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and closes at 1 a.m. Friday, re-opening at 8 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 29.
- Kohl’s opens for Black Friday deals at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Online deals will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day at Kohls.com.
- Meijer Black Friday sales begin at 6 a.m. Thanksgiving Day and continue into Friday, Nov. 29. Deals honoring gift card offers will only be available in-store.
- Target Black Friday offers are available online as quantities allow beginning Wednesday, Nov. 27 for Red Card holders (3:01 a.m.) and Target Circle members (6 a.m.). Gift card offers aren’t available online. Target opens at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28 and closes at 1 a.m. Friday; stores re-open at 7 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29.
- Walmart’s Black Friday deals begin online on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 10 p.m. Stores open for sales at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. The store notes not every offer in its Black Friday advertisement is available online.

Around the House: Best Black Friday deals in 2019
One of the hottest items of the Christmas season, once again, is the Instant Pot and pressure cookers.
Target will have a 6-quart version for $64.95. Walmart will have the Instant Pot 6-quart Duo for $49. Kohl’s will have a 6-quart version available for $67.99 and purchasers will receive $15 in Kohl’s Cash. Best Buy will have the Insignia brand 6-quart model for $29
Kohl’s will have the iRobot Roomba 677 for $234.99 plus $45 in Kohl’s Cash. Bed, Bath and Beyond will have the Shark Ion S87 cleaning system, including the robot vacuum and hand-held vacuum for $187.49.
Electronics: Best Black Friday deals in 2019
One of the hottest electronic items this year are Apple’s AirPods. Meijer will a $50 discount off a future purchase with the purchase of one pair of AirPods Gen 2 with charging case at $159.99. Target will have the AirPods for $144.99. Amazon does not have Black Friday sales listed, but carries the AirPods for $144. Staples will have the AirPods with charging station for $134.
Soundbars are rising in popularity this year. Meijer will offer the LG SJ4R 4.1 Channel Sound Bar surround system with wireless surround sound speakers and subwoofer for $179 and a coupon for $30 off a future purchase. Best Buy will have the Samsung 5.1 Soundbar with subwoofer for $279.99. Walmart will have the Samsung 3.1 R60M Soundbar for $189.
Toys: Best Black Friday deals in 2019
Target will have mix and match buy-one-get-50-percent off toy discounts on various brands. Meijer will also have buy one get one 50 percent off deals on toys, including Marvel and Baby Alive toys.
Target will have books available at buy two get one free.
Video games systems and games
Best Buy will have the Nintendo Switch with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Console Bundle for $299. Target will offer the same bundle for the same price. Meijer will also offer the same deal on the Mario Kart 8 bundle. Kohl’s will have the Nintendo Switch Console with carrying care and controller charging dock for $319 and customers will receive $90 in Kohl’s Cash.
Target and Walmart will both have the Xbox One X Bundle, including Gears of War 5 and a $40 Target gift card for $349. Best Buy will have the Xbox One X Star War Jedi: Fallen Order Deluxe Edition for $349.99.
Target and Walmart both have the Playstation 4 Bundle, including The Last Us, God of War and Horizon Zero for $200.
Target will have have select Nintendo Switch Games for $30.
If board games are on the kids’ Christmas lists, Target will have games such as Say Anything and Throw, Throw Burrito for 50 percent off. Walmart will have various board games Connect 4, Clue, Sorry and Trouble for $5. Games like Operation and Simon will be $10.
DVDs and Blu-Ray
Best Buy will have various Blu-Ray titles for $7.Walmart will have DVDs starting at $3.96 and Blu-Ray movies starting at $5.96.
Walmart will have large powered ride-on toys for $98. Small rides-on are $39.
Walmart will have Barbie Fashionista dolls for $5. Walmart will have the Baby Alive Potty Dance doll for $15. Target will have Hatchibabies for $29.99.
Lego and Duplo
Target will have select Lego Friends, City and even Jurassic World sets for $19.99. Walmart will have the Lego Classic or Duplo boxes for $20.
Cell Phone Accessories
Walmart will have Tzumi Bytes cable protectors in a two pack for $2.
