Mattel is on a mission to “make doll play more inclusive.”

With that in mind, the brand released a line of gender-neutral dolls last month that they say will give kids the “freedom to create their own customizable characters.”

Known as the Creatable World line, the dolls come in six different kits that can be customized in 100-plus ways each with options for hair, clothing and accessories.

“Toys are a reflection of culture and as the world continues to celebrate the positive impact of inclusivity, we felt it was time to create a doll line free of labels,” Kim Culmone, senior vice president of Mattel Fashion Doll Design, said in a press release about the new additions. “Through research, we heard that kids don’t want their toys dictated by gender norms. This line allows all kids to express themselves freely, which is why it resonates so strongly with them. We’re hopeful Creatable World will encourage people to think more broadly about how all kids can benefit from doll play.”

Mattel worked with parents, doctors and kids in the development of the new doll design, the press release notes. The dolls, which are rated for ages 6 and up, are available in various skin tones. They bend at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles.

Interested in learning more about the Creatable World dolls? Here’s a look at some of the key details about the new line.

1. Hair flare

Each doll has a short haircut but also comes with a removable wig. “Kids can switch long hair for short hair, then back again,” Mattel explains.

2. Sense of style

All the dolls in the Creatable World line come with six unique items of clothing – from jean shorts and tulle skirts to flannel long-sleeve shirts, athletic jerseys and jean jackets. They come with three pairs of shoes to choose from, too.

“The clothing is straight off the playground, and authentic details keep it even more real,” the brand notes.

3. Time to accessorize

What doll would be complete without some accessories? Each of the six Creatable World dolls come with three fun accessories, including sunglasses, a hat, and a bag.

4. The bottom line

If your kid wants one of the Creatable World dolls, know that the suggested retail price is $30. They can be bought at Amazon, Target, Walmart and other local toy stores. For more information, visit creatableworld.com.
