For kids, summer brings fun – and an increase in injuries. A free Ann Arbor-area two-day program strives to ensure they’re prepared when emergencies strike.
Camp 9-1-1, hosted by Huron Valley Ambulance, is an interactive experience for ages 8-12, says Joyce Williams, HVA public affairs manager.
“(It) teaches kids that paramedics, police officers and firefighters are friendly community helpers,” she says, “and gives them confidence in an emergency.” Kids learn the basics of first aid and CPR and how to prevent injuries at home. They even tour a hospital’s emergency room and participate in demos.
“Kids respond really well to something visual,” Williams says.
Camps run 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. both days. Register in advance: Each session maxes at 25-30 kids.
