Mom Brings Nerf Gun to Hospital to Keep Dad Awake During Childbirth

Childbirth is tough, and the last thing mom wants to see is dad snoozing in the corner. So one mom decided to keep her hubby up with the help of a Nerf gun.

Birthing a child is no easy feat. Hours of painful contractions, nausea, exhaustion and the potential for tearing are all on the table – and we aren’t even including the nine months of pregnancy gross-outs that precede the actual birth.

It can take forever, too, and mom and dad might find themselves a bit bored in between contractions. Still, there’s one thing that no mom wants to have in that moment – and that’s a sleeping dad.

One Wisconsin mom decide that there would be no opportunities for her husband to get some shut-eye (at least not while she was awake) by bringing a Nerf gun to the hospital and pelting him with foam darts every time he started to drift.

Samantha Mravik-Miller was prompted to use this “mom hack” after a troublesome night in the hospital with her almost 6-year-old son.

“I had lost my voice due to being on oxygen, and one of the nights my call button was also out of reach. I remember having to throw an empty water bottle at him to try and wake him up to help me get our crying baby,” she told Fox News.

She posted the hack to Facebook, calling it “Mom hack level 10,000” and urging other moms to bring one in their hospital bag – she also included a laughing face, which means it’s probably all in good fun.

Her post racked up 2.8K reactions, 18K shares and more than 9.1K comments from moms who both related to the need for one of these bad boys and those who thought it was humorous – including one Meagan Frampton who said the idea was better than ice chips.

Of course, as it goes in the age of the internet, not everyone finds Mravik-Miller’s hack to be funny or useful, but I’m not going to mention any specific opinions here because the negative ones that I saw were really quite vile.

Personally, I find the “hack” to be cute, harmless and quite useful – especially if dad can’t stay awake.

Sorry guys, I know you’re tired. But if you your wife/girlfriend/significant other/person is pushing out (or is being cut open for) a kid – your kid – the least thing you can do is stay awake and support her. If she needs a harmless children’s toy to help with that, then so be it.
