A woman in labor thought she’d have enough time to make it to the hospital, but her bundle of joy had other plans. New York resident Beth Newell, who is also an editor for the Reductress website, ended up giving birth in the backseat of her Honda recently.
Epic way to deliver, right? Wondering why we care so much?
It turns out, after the delivery, the new mom tweeted this: “@Honda, earlier today I gave birth to my daughter in the back of a Honda Fit. It is a mess. Can I have a free car?”
Since her initial tweet, it has been reposted thousands of times. In fact, Honda actually responded to the tweet: “@bethnew Congrats on your beautiful new baby girl. We’d love to get your contact info to see how we can be of service. Can you please DM us?”
Fox News Health reports that many people are supporting the new mom’s effort in getting a new car from the manufacturer. To be honest, though, I think this is ridiculous. She says she was making a joke, but I don’t find it humorous at all.
Some people think it’s completely normal to take to social media to ask for free stuff – and then thousands of people re-tweet what they’ve initially said – and boom: We just expect a car company to give this woman a new car when all she simply need to do is get it cleaned.
What sort of message are we sending to the next generation? Complain and you’ll get something for it. Think you’re deserving of something and therefore you should automatically get it.
Let’s stop being so entitled, shall we?
Newell just needs to get her car detailed, but lucky for her, it seems Honda offered a free cleaning and seat replacement to the new mom, Buzzfeed reports.
