Parents Face Charges After Toddler Found Stuck in Toilet

At first glance, a headline about a toddler stuck in a toilet might make you think of some innocent potty training accident. But in Canton, Ohio, it turns out the incident was a result of irresponsible parenting.

According to Fox 8 Cleveland, neighbors called police when they heard a child crying for more than 30 minutes. When maintenance allowed police inside the apartment, it turned out to be a 20-month-old boy stuck in the toilet.

You might be wondering how such a thing happens. Well, turns out investigators believe the child was left home alone while mom went to Wal-Mart, because she showed up at home with bags from the store, Fox 8 Cleveland reports – though mom claims she left the boy with her sister, NewsOne notes.

The news outlet reports the child is temporarily in protective custody, and that police have charged the boy’s 20-year-old parents with child endangering and marijuana cultivation, since three marijuana plants were also found in the home.

I get so tired of hearing about parents being so neglectful. You have a young child, and that means you take care of that child. Why does that even need to be said? Why could the nearly 2-year-old not go with mom to Wal-Mart? And if mom truly did leave the toddler with his aunt, where the hell did she go?

I have a lot of questions, clearly. And sure, the kid turned out to be fine, but that must have been so terrifying for that toddler. Plus, leaving him home alone for a long period of time could have resulted in something so much worse. These “parents” deserve the child endangering charges so they learn a tough lesson in what it means to be responsible for another life.
