Parents Pay $300 for Doll That Helps Baby Sleep

Moms and dads of new babies are tired, and since they should sleep when their child sleeps, they first need said child to actually sleep.

That is easier said than done.

That’s why parents were thrilled at the invention of the Lulla Doll, a doll that is supposed to give the child comfort by providing the sounds of a mother’s heartbeat and breathing while at rest. It can even pick up the smell of the mother if it is kept on her person for a day or so.

Users say it works like a charm, though one mom says it sounds terrifying to her. “It does sound like Darth Vader,” and “Like something out of Exorcist,” she says.

But it works, and most babies haven’t seen either movie anyway.

And, the doll was so well loved that it sold out completely. Now, parents are even buying it off of eBay for around $300.

Those parents must be tired.

Some moms oppose the idea of something being in the baby’s sleep space as it is not recommended, while others don’t like it for a whole other reason.

“Why spend $350 on a germy doll when your child can listen to your own heart? Can’t you understand that what a baby needs IS the warmth of your body and the sound of your actual heart? No – it doesn’t make them dependent on you. It makes them secure,” says commenter Schatzl Birnbaum on this Pop Sugar article.

While Birnbaum has a point, it is also true that co-sleeping is not always a safe or possible option for parents, and if a baby won’t sleep, there has to be a way to make it happen.

This invention is a good thing, in my opinion. Babies need sleep, and sometimes they don’t want it. Either they feel like they’ll miss something or they just hate sleeping.

And parents may not always have the ability to hold their child while they nap. They have other responsibilities like other children and chores.

If it helps your baby sleep, let him lay beside a doll that sounds like Darth Vader. Whatever you have to do – it’s none of my business.

You’ll have plenty of time to cuddle and connect once you both get some well-needed and deserved rest.

What do you think of the doll? Would you buy it? Tell us in comments.
