There are always plenty of fun activities going on around southeast Michigan for kids and families to enjoy. But sometimes it’s nice for children with special needs to have an event that’s designed just for them — from sensory-friendly movie showings to a chance to try something new in a more patient, supportive environment.
Parents can also benefit from workshops, support meetings and other events geared toward moms and dads of children with special needs.
That’s why we’ve compiled this list featuring some great upcoming special needs events for kids and their parents. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has caused many of these in-person events to cancel in spring 2020. So instead, we rounded up cool virtual events that kids of any ability will love.
Here are a few of our favorites.
Miss Allie, a certified Michigan art educator from Kalamazoo, takes to Facebook multiple times throughout the day to entertain little ones with live readings of beloved classic kids’ books.
Learn and play online, and offline, with the Sesame Street gang. Families can find resources for kids of all ages here.
Learn how a Michigan farm runs (and meet some adorable critters) with check-ins by the Marshall-based farmhouse.
Find online coloring books, online videos and more, courtesy of Toys “R” Us.
Take a virtual trip around the world to meet different animals that call our planet home.
