Now that Michigan has designated the SAT as its default college entrance exam, juniors across the state have some serious preparing to do! There are test dates coming up Nov. 6 and Dec. 4, 2021.
What’s the best way to prepare for SAT tests? Take a prep course! These southeast Michigan tutoring centers listed below offer various SAT prep classes and resources to help your teen tackle the exam, from test-taking strategies to practice tests. Plus, find some free SAT prep opportunities, too! If going to a class setting for prep isn’t your teen’s preference, some of these tutoring centers also offer online courses.

Aim for A Tutoring

This 10-week course, based on the new standards, brings students in each week for two hours (one hour of instruction, one hour of drill time) to study for the SAT. Each week focuses on a specific aspect or subject of the test. At the beginning and the end of the course, students take a practice exam. Classes are in a group setting of about 8-12 students, but private classes are also available. Courses are offered about four to five times per year. Register online.
Brightmont Academy

This highly customized one-on-one program starts with an evaluation to assess individual students’ needs and where they’re at academically. Students take an SAT practice test to determine which strategies to focus on. The number of hours is based upon the student.
Institute for Higher Learning

This one-on-one tutoring service is completely individualized. Students and their families talk with IHL about overall goals, are given a full diagnostic test to determine direction of course and are matched with a tutor. Customized prep means tutoring can run as long as needed, but typically students will meet with a tutor for an hour or two each week and may tutor anywhere from three to six months.
Kabir’s Prep

Kaplan Test Prep

Find a multitude of SAT prep course options at various prices for your student through Kaplan, including options for in-person sessions with practice tests and a tutor, live online courses lead by Kaplan teachers and unlimited, self-paced and premier options ($2,199 and up). Macomb Tutoring
Looking to get prepared for the SAT? Sign up for individualized, one-to-one tutoring with Macomb Tutoring. Typically tutoring takes place once a week depending on the student’s schedule. Call for details and to register.
Mally A.C.T.
Mally A.C.T. has been in operation for 12 years and has helped more than 6,000 students from over 215 high schools in the Midwest prepare for the ACT and SAT through individualized one-on-one tutoring sessions.
Manhattan Elite Prep

This 28-hour course meets a couple hours a week for 6-8 weeks and covers all SAT exam materials plus two practice tests in class. Find course dates and additional details online.
McCully’s Educational Resource Center

This southeast Michigan tutoring center has been providing test-taking instruction for more than 20 years. SAT group classes are available at varying times throughout the week and have no more than seven students per group. Instruction is two hours per section of the test, for eight hours total. Check out their schedule online for the latest group class dates and practice test dates, too. For individual tutoring, call to set up a time that works best for your student.
Optiminds
This individualized one-on-one test prep program helps students with working memory issues, such as speed, stamina and attention to detail. Students are given a diagnostic test during their first session to determine the course. Students can continue tutoring for as many sessions as needed to prepare, and each session is three hours.

The Princeton Review

Students can take SAT prep courses in a number of ways through The Princeton Review. Options include self-paced online, private tutoring, live online, small group, classroom courses and more – plus many local opportunities. Check for the latest online.

Here, you’ve got options! Students come in for a diagnostic exam that can guide them in what program they should choose as well as what areas need work. Their program is 64 hours, which starts four months ahead of your scheduled exam, and includes two hours of instruction with tutors and two hours of practice each week. You can also check into an 8-hours-per-month SAT/ACT Foundations class for $389/month split into two-hour sessions each week. Call your local location to see if what options they offer.
