Macomb County Hosts Preschool Family Event This May

This informational fair on May 18, 2024, will introduce local parents to quality preschool programming in the county and get attendee's kids enrolled, too.

The decision to send your child off to preschool is a big one for parents. It also comes with a lot of questions: How do you know if your child is ready, what program is best for your child’s needs and what is the process to get them enrolled?

Fret not, Macomb County parents, the upcoming Hooray Pre-K for ALL Free Family Event at the Macomb Intermediate School District has all this information and more!

This event, which happens on May 18, 2024, brings kids, parents and faculty together so that parents can learn more about different preschool options and kids can get a taste of what preschool life is like.

“Local families will be given firsthand information and learn about preschool opportunities offered in Macomb County,” says JoAnne Elkin, the Early Childhood/Early Literacy Consultant at the Macomb Intermediate School District. “In addition, their children will be able to experience a day in the life of a preschooler by participating in several educational activities focusing on all areas of development and learning.”

The Hooray Pre-K for ALL Free Family Event, which is a collaboration between the Macomb Intermediate School District and Macomb Community Action, will be structured around the daily schedule of a high-quality preschool led by Macomb County Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) and Head Start teaching teams.

“Our Preschool Demonstration Classrooms will give families the opportunity to learn that Great Start Readiness Programs and Head Start Programs provide developmentally appropriate learning that promote high-quality instruction with play-based experiences rich in language and literacy,” Elkin adds.

And while kids are participating in these activities, their parents will get to ask enrollment specialists their most burning preschool questions, tour the Head Start classroom located at the MISD and pre-enroll their kids in the program that best fits their needs.

Characters, The Music Lady, Lakeshore Learning, Cutting Edge Gymnastics, Party Animals’ Petting Farm and Great Time Party Bounce Houses will be at the event. Literacy gift bags, books, puzzles, educational family activities and resources are also available at no charge to families.

The Hooray Pre-K for ALL Free Family Event happens 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Macomb Intermediate School District, which is located at 44001 Garfield Road, Clinton Township.

The fair is free and no registration is required, so bring the family. Kids must be 4 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2024 to register for the Great Start Readiness Program.
