The decision to send your child off to preschool is a big one for parents. It also comes with a lot of questions: How do you know if your child is ready, what program is best for your child’s needs and what is the process to get them enrolled?
Fret not, Macomb County parents, the upcoming Preschool Fair at the Macomb Intermediate School District has all this information and more!
This event, which happens on June 11, 2022, brings kids, parents and faculty together so that parents can learn more about different preschool options and kids can get a taste of what preschool life is like.
“Local families will be given firsthand information and learn about preschool opportunities offered in Macomb County,” says JoAnne Elkin, the Early Childhood/Early Literacy Consultant at the Macomb Intermediate School District. “In addition, their children will be able to experience a day in the life of a preschooler by participating in several educational activities focusing on all areas of development and learning.”
These activities take place in the Preschool Demonstration Classroom at the MISD and include everything from small-group literacy and math to large-group reading, music, movement and even some outside time.
They’ll also be entered into giveaways for educational goodies, play with costumed characters and enjoy music by Beverly Meyer, aka the Music Lady.
“Our Preschool Demonstration Classrooms will give families the opportunity to learn that Great Start Readiness Programs and Head Start Programs provide developmentally appropriate learning that promote high-quality instruction with play-based experiences rich in language and literacy,” Elkin adds.
And while kids are participating in these activities, their parents will get to ask enrollment specialists their most burning preschool questions, tour the Head Start classroom located at the MISD and pre-enroll their kids in the program that best fits their needs.
The Preschool Fair happens 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Macomb Intermediate School District, which is located at 44001 Garfield Road, Clinton Township.
The fair is free and no registration is required, but it is intended for families who have children who are 4 years of age. Kids must be 4 years old on or before Dec. 1, 2022 to register for the Great Start Readiness Program.
