Spring break activities near Detroit

Not sure what to do with the kids at home? Here are some great ideas for fun activities near you. 

  • Explore the outdoors. Bundle up and embrace the winter weather with outdoor adventures like sledding, ice skating, or snowshoeing at local parks. Families can also take a spin on the ice rink located in the heart of downtown Detroit at Campus Martius
  • Make a special “goo” doll. Take advantage of Detroit’s proximity to world-class museums with a day of doll making with Detroit artist Melissa Dettloff. Dettloff’s “goo dolls” are popular with kids and adults alike. Participants use air dry clay to make unusual dolls in this free class at the Detroit Institute of Arts
  • Catch a classic movie at a historic theater. The Redford Theatre, located just next to the city of Detroit, is an enchanting place to watch a movie on a winter evening. The theater, known for its historic organ and organ-accompanied films, is showing The Sandlot on March 29. 
  •  Warm up inside the Belle Isle Conservatory. After two long years, the beloved Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory at Belle Isle has reopened. The conservatory features a walking path through lush tropical flowers, fruiting trees like bananas and figs and unusual desert species.
