Today’s metro Detroit tween may be tomorrow’s world-known entrepreneur. That’s the goal of AccelerateKid‘s hands-on, tech-infused classes at its Northville home base and temporary pop-up spot in Detroit.
The goal of AccelerateKid is to provide a place for kids to discover their inner entrepreneur and create. Founder Thanh Tran is a Novi dad of two – and says introducing entrepreneurship early on is crucial and can lead to big things for kids’ futures.
At AccelerateKid, kids can take a variety of classes, which are mostly for kids 9-13, including Android and iOS app development, Lego robotics, entrepreneurship, Minecraft.biZ, web design, video production and animation.
Tran says he noticed in Detroit, “There’s not enough family or kid-friendly activities” – something he hopes to change with his business
AccelerateKid’s downtown Detroit location will open in mid-January 2014 for two months as part of D:hive’s third Pilot program. D:Hive’s previous Pilot winner, Spielhaus Toys, also had a family focus.
To sign up for classes, visit AccelerateKid’s website. You can pick the location at which you’d like your child to attend classes, which range from $25 for a one-time, one-hour parent/child workshop in Detroit to $249-$399 for other, longer classes at both locations. Must register for classes by Jan. 6, 2014 for their Jan. 18 start date.
