Metro Parent’s Top Teacher Awards

We asked southeast Michigan parents to give gold stars to the awesome educators in their kids' schools. Meet the two teachers who earned highest grades.

Remember that one teacher who truly had an impact on your life? Took you under her wing and changed how you felt about school? Challenged you to have a new perspective on science – or sparked that love of reading and writing? Maybe that teacher made you feel more confident, encouraged you to be yourself or taught you a lesson that had nothing to do with what was written in the lesson plans.

We know your kids have those teachers, too, and we want to make sure they’re recognized for their important work. Metro Parent’s annual Top Teacher Awards are all about shining a well-deserved spotlight on the southeast Michigan educators who bring so much to the daily lives of our children. We’re proud to introduce these two winners as our standouts in 2016.

Meet Heather Petrus from Bingham Farms Elementary School

Meet Karen McGraw from Dearborn Heights Montessori Center
