Description
Big trees are everywhere in Michigan: in parks, along sidewalks or even in your backyard. Ready to big tree hunt? Grab a friend, a piece of string and a marker and head into the trees. To measure tree size, tie your string around the tree’s trunk at 4.5 feet high, like a belt.
Mark where the string meets itself and then measure the distance between marks to find out just how big your Big Tree is. Visit www.bigtreehunt.com to enter your tree online, learn more about the contest, or find out where you can pick up a paper entry form.
Every week until the contest ends on September 3, 2019, ReLeaf Michigan's Facebook page will feature one entry as the contest’s "Tree of the Week." At the end of the Michigan Big Tree Hunt Contest, all entrants are invited to attend a special closing ceremony where prizes are awarded for the biggest tree by county. Prizes will also be awarded for the largest Eastern White Pine and largest tree found by an adult (16 and older) and child (15 and younger) in the state.
The Michigan Big Tree Hunt is a fantastic, free adventure and a great opportunity for Michiganders to take some time to enjoy fresh air and the majesty of the trees that surround us. Happy Tree Hunting!
