Dream Arts Co. (DACO), a local arts education organization, is "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" as it presents Sound of Music, which is considered to be one of the world's most beloved musicals. Two performances will be held Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 1 at noon inside the auditorium at Groves High School in Birmingham. Thirty-five local actors, ranging in age 7-18, are cast in the show.

The original Broadway production of Sound of Music starred Mary Martin as Maria and won five Tony Awards in 1959 including Best Musical, then went on to cinematic history with Julie Andrews in the starring role. The musical includes infectious and memorable favorites including "Edelweiss," "Do-Re-Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and of course, "The Sound of Music."
