Want to learn about all about the science of electricity in a safe and fun way? You can do just that with our squishy circuits experiment on Aug. 11, 2019!

It might sound shocking, but it’s totally possible to discover how electricity works in a super safe and creative way. How’s that? With the sixth experiment of the 2019 Virtual Camp, brought to you by Metro Parent and Michigan Science Center. This episode is all about squishy circuits!

After all, wires aren’t the only thing that transmits electrical energy. In fact, lots of everyday items can help keep electricity flowing. These are called conductors. On the other hand, some items stop the flow of electricity. These things are insulators. And, believe it or not, even certain types of food can be conductors or insulators for electricity!

In this experiment, you’ll see exactly how by making your very own colorful dough. There are a few key ingredients that will make all the difference in our project.

Can you guess if salt or sugar is a better “conductor”? You’ll find out!

So let’s power up this fun experiment – which also serves as a great creative “outlet” for kids. Scroll down and find out how to make your own squishy circuits by watching the video. Then, get the guide for the step-by-step directions – plus cool electricity trivia and extra resources.
