The Children’s Eye Care Detroit location at Children’s Hospital of Michigan offers premier ophthalmology services for children from birth to age 18. Drs. Apkarian, Bohra, Gianfermi, Rao, Roarty and Rotberg offer a full range of services to ensure a child’s eye health. They offer vision tests to assess a child’s visual ability and comprehensive medical eye exams that determine the overall health of a child’s eyes. In addition, the board-certified pediatric ophthalmologists at Children’s Eye Care, offer treatment for all pediatric eye diseases and issues – from strabismus (misaligned eyes), refractive errors, congenital cataracts and glaucoma, chalazion (stye) and more.
The office environment is designed to be kid-friendly to take the fear out of getting an eye exam. The doctors and staff are specially trained to help children focus on the exam, so they can get the information they need to make a proper diagnosis or evaluation. For example, each exam room is equipped with animatronic animals and characters that dance and sing to get a child’s attention and calm their nerves. The office also has a “no white coat” policy, meaning that doctors and staff wear clothing that is less intimidating to their little patients.
To ensure your child’s vision and ophthalmic health, the American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends that a child get a full medical eye exam by at least age 5. Children’s Eye Care is one of the few pediatric ophthalmology practices in southeast Michigan with the skilled doctors and staff to administer this exam.
