As a dad of two sons, ages 3 and 6, Dr. Steve Rollins, owner of Summit Dental Group, understands how important it is to find a dental practice that cares for the whole family under one roof.
After all, parents and kids are busy balancing work, school and extracurricular activities, so they shouldn’t have to spend extra time traipsing from office to office for care.
Thanks to Summit Dental Group, they don’t have to. Here, families can receive a number of dental services including teeth cleanings, fillings, teeth whitening, root canal treatment, TMJ treatment, dental implant restorations, sealants, extractions, some orthodontic services, treatment for sleep apnea and more.
An Illinois native, Dr. Rollins moved to Michigan with his wife, Ashley, after earning his dental medicine degree from the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. He spent five years working at a dental practice in Flint, but decided he wanted run his own practice his own way – which includes making more time for patients while providing quality care. He purchased his Waterford-based practice almost two years ago and it has been growing ever since.
As a kid, Dr. Rollins was in and out of the dentist’s office. While his experiences were positive, dentist visits aren’t always that way. So when it comes to caring for the youngest ones in the family, Dr. Rollins wants to ensure that their visits – especially those first visits – are free of fear.
“We try to make it a fun, positive experience,” Dr. Rollins says, “for kids as well as their parents.”
He has a meet-and-greet with kids during their first visit, has them hop up on the chair and even offers Dr. Seuss bibs for the little ones – all to help keep things light and put children at ease.
These visits are just as important for parents. In fact, Dr. Rollins makes sure the visits are informative for moms and dads who don’t always know how to care for their children’s teeth.
Establishing relationships with families is essential. “We try to take the time with all of our patients,” he says.
“We want to grow a family of patients,” Ashley says. “We appreciate how important our patient’s time is and want to make it more convenient for families to get the best possible care.”
With two dental hygienists on staff, it’s easy to make an appointment for a parent and child at the same time. This cuts down on the amount of time your family is spending at the dentist – and makes it much easier for busy families.
