BounceU is helping metro Detroit kids soar to new heights – literally. The giant inflatables and bounce house facility, which is located in Troy, offers birthday parties, open jump times and even parents’ night out events throughout each month.
BounceU Troy owner Michelle Bishop says there are plenty of play opportunities for kids, and parents – who always play for free.
“The parents can get into the inflatables and jump with the kids. Parents don’t pay,” she says. “They are free when they come in with their children. It’s a place for everyone to play.”
Birthday parties are the most popular event at BounceU. Parties run for two hours and involve 35 minutes in each of two inflatable rooms.
“Each room has different activities so the partygoers don’t get bored. There is 70 minutes of bouncing and 50 minutes in the party room for pizza, cake and presents,” she says. “All of our parties are private, just for the family and friends of the birthday child. Parents love that because they don’t have to worry about where the kids are at and following them all over the place.”
The parties are staffed by BounceU’s party pros, Bishop adds. They referee the inflatable areas, play with the kids, keep track of the time and assist with serving food and cake and opening presents.
“The party pros have to audition when they come in for a job. We want them to be personable and have fun with the group. We want this to be the easiest party a parent has ever thrown. They don’t have to worry about decorating, setting up or keeping things on track,” Bishop says. “We want parents to actually enjoy watching their child play at his or her birthday party.”
BounceU offers several activities to make each party unique. Glow-in-the-dark parties are popular with all kids. Cosmic wars, including glow-in-the-dark shooters with soft ammo, are fun for guests between the ages of 6 and 10. Face painters and character visits round out the fun. BounceU can hire favorite characters to enhance a child’s party – including characters from Paw Patrol and Doc McStuffins, plus princesses and Minions.
Bishop strives to use local companies for the party supplies, face painting, character entertainment and even the food. Aside from being a woman who owns her own business, Bishop is a mom – and so is her general manager Pam.
“We want people to be able to come in and have a great time with their kids. It changes the dynamic a little bit when you have two moms watching over the staff and watching over the birthday parties to make sure that things are buttoned up and run smoothly,” Bishop says. “We care about how the facility is maintained and how the staff treats our customers.”
Besides birthday parties, BounceU has preschool play dates every Wednesday and Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m, for the 6 and under crowd. Bishop says one of the most popular offerings is the Parents Night Out, which BounceU offers twice a month.
“We offer one on a Friday and one on a Saturday and they sell out almost every time. We keep the kids for 3 1/2 hours, we feed them, let them bounce and wear them out so they are ready for bed when the parents take them home. It’s $20 for the first child and $15 for the second child and we cap the event at 25 children,” Bishop says.
There are also open bounces and mini-bounces that occur regularly throughout the weekend.
“We are not just a walk-in-and-play facility so we direct everyone to our website for a calendar of our events. All of our bounces are scheduled so we can make sure they are properly staffed,” Bishop says. “Making a prepaid reservation online guarantees a spot in a particular bounce-time.”
BounceU also offers a Summer Passport option for those who want to participate in open bounce times throughout the summer.
“It’s one price to bounce the whole entire summer,” Bishop says. “We maintain as many bounce times as we can throughout the summer break. There are bounces scheduled almost every single day.”
