It’s almost time to make those New Year’s resolutions! If getting in shape as a family is on your list, perhaps it’s time to invest in a gym membership. Staying active with kids can be difficult, but there are plenty of places that kids are welcome to hang out while parents exercise or even where they can exercise together. Some of these Grand Rapids fitness centers have daycare options available, and some have child programs as well as adult programs. There are even centers where kids can work out with children. Rates vary place to place and based on packages, so call ahead or check their website for pricing.

Alkalign Studios

Balance yourself with Alkalign Studios. The California chain has only one location in Michigan, and they offer plenty of classes and child care in the playroom so parents can take a class while their children run off steam.

David D. Hunting YMCA

This location is the first LEED certified YMCA in the nation and was built in 2005. Parents can bring their kids to the KidZone while they exercise in the state-of-the-art facility. There are also plenty of programs that kids can participate in.

Family Fitness Center offers child care during certain workout hours, so check ahead for those times. They offer over 25 classes to members, and there are women-only exercise facilities, as well. Check out the programs for kids too.

The Friends Club child care will watch your kids while you work out, and the kids will enjoy daily organized activities.

Ionia County YMCA

This Y location offers after-school child care, has a pool for swim lessons, and the location is within Ionia High School, making lessons with kids convenient for parents and teens.

Renew Mama offers options for moms to wear their babies to yoga or barre classes. Plus, find kids’ yoga classes so you and your little one can exercise together.
