Henry Ford College will host the 4th annual Camp Henry for middle and high school students. Camp Henry breaks away from traditional camps! We provide hands-on learning and exploration highlighting careers in science, technology, engineering and math. We make camp fun, academic and affordable! This summer, our eight camps will focus on exposing the students to high-demand careers.
In Camp 5101-Culinary Camp, students will learn the fundamental aspects of cooking through a wide variety of hands-on activities. Students will prepare dishes in a professional kitchen and be introduced to kitchen fundamentals, such as safety, sanitation and different cooking methods. Initiatives include farm to fork, nutrition, and healthful eating, a day in the bake shop and kids taking over the kitchen. Our Baking Camp focuses on baking fundamentals, measurements, cookies, quick breads, yeast breads and various desserts.
Camp Android introduces students to the world of Android Development. During class, students will build their apps from scratch, see how they get placed on the Google Play market, and will have a chance to work with teachers who have developed apps in the IT industry.
At CAMP RN, students are engaged in anatomy and physiology and nutritional science while learning nursing fundamentals including CPR and first aid. Participants interact with nurses in a hospital setting (shadowing), and utilize the physical assessment laboratory to learn about the human body. In our DNA Camp for Girls, students will participate in fun hands-on activities, and real lab work is highlighting the structure of the cell and the structure and function of DNA. We will talk about the role of DNA in genetics, health and disease, biotechnology and forensics. Lab activities will include extracting DNA from plant cells and analyzing DNA using forensic science techniques. We may even solve a mystery in the process!
Women in science technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields will join the girls for informal discussions of career paths in these various areas. Robotics Camp explores exciting design challenges and robotics. This opportunity will incorporate original project and inquiry-based challenges to stimulate necessary 21st Century skills. Both individual and team activities will allow students to learn science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) content through an application, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Connections to the real-world will be emphasized using the latest technology and hands-on investigations with the primary focus on robotics. Finally, students can join us this summer for find out “What STEMs from Here?” This hands-on camp highlights robotics, design, and manufacturing in a way you’ve never imagined. Learn about opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) as well entrepreneurship and more.
