Education Expo 2018

About the Education Expo

Metro Parent’s Education Expo drew more than 1,000 people to Cranbrook Institute of Science on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018. The free event offered attendees the opportunity to interact with more than 40 exhibitors, enjoy a free lunch, take time seeing the science center and attend the first-ever Ed Talks. Responses from exhibitors and attendees was overwhelmingly positive: 85 percent of attendees rated the event 4  or 5 on a 1-to-5 scale.

Ed Talks: A new addition to the expo

While families made their way through the museum and visited exhibitors, some made their way to one or more of the following “Ed Talks” sessions. Ed Talks, which was a new addition to the expo this year, drew about 250 people to the sessions, which ran from 10 minutes to 45 minutes.

Our new Ed Talks, running throughout the afternoon in the Auditorium, offered a dose of educational advice and inspiration from local experts to help you give your child an academic edge. Plus, there was a panel on the state of education in Michigan and a Town Hall conversation with our partners at Bridge Magazine, Michigan’s award-winning source of news and analysis.

Here were the sessions (you can view them in the videos above as well) and links to stories or additional content related to them.

What can be done on a state-wide level? And what can parents do on an individual level to help their child? A panel of educational experts share their thoughts and suggestions.
