Family First at Bingham Farms Family Dentistry

Husband and wife duo Drs. Rohit and Purvi Arora pride themselves in offering a family-friendly dental practice with up-to-date dental technology.

Six years ago, Drs. Rohit and Purvi Arora purchased Bingham Farms Family Dentistry and planned to make it their own. Around that time, the Aroras learned they were expecting their first child. Since then, they have had two more children and continued to grow their dental practice with one thing in mind: family.

“We wanted to start a true family dental practice,” Dr. Rohit Arora says.

When the Aroras purchased Bingham Farms Family Dentistry, a 30-year-old practice, they overhauled it to bring it up-to-date with the latest technology by adding digital X-rays, lasers and intraoral cameras.

“We feel like we owe it to our patients to stay up-to-date and keep pushing forward with the dental technology,” he says.

At Bingham Farms Family Dentistry, the Aroras offer general dentistry services and specialty services such as Invisalign, teeth whitening, laser dental cleanings and implant services.

Committed to continued learning

While the technology involved in dentistry is rapidly changing, the Aroras are committed to learning about up-and-coming tech through conferences, seminars and continuing education. He also relies on his staff of three hygienists to help recognize emerging trends.

“A lot of people think you go in to the dentist and you get a cleaning and it’s the same thing every time,” he says. “We have hygienists who are committed to helping us stay on the leading edge. My hygienists are the front line. They are attending online and live seminars, helping us stay aware of what’s the latest and greatest ways to improve our care for our patients.”

The Aroras see patients as young as 2 years old up to adults. He says as parents, he and Purvi, along with the hygienists, are prepared to handle every phase at every age.

“We attract a lot of young families with kids because they feel they can relate to us. We get what they are going through,” Arora says. “We are able to take our time and see one patient at a time. It’s worked for us. We’ve been able to generate almost a completely referral-based practice.”

Eliminating dental fear

At Bingham Farms Family Dentistry, the Aroras aim to make patients feel comfortable with their dental care. It starts with eliminating fear of the dentist from a young age.

“At our early appointments with young children, we call it a ‘Happy Visit.’ We aren’t even expecting to look at their teeth or clean their teeth,” Arora says. “We want them to become familiar with the dental office. We have them come in a few more times and they see the same faces and get comfortable with the environment so they aren’t scared.”

After a few visits, children are at ease and it makes examining them easy. Plus, the doctors and hygienists at Bingham Farms Family Dentistry have lots of methods for distracting kids and getting through the appointments.

Developing a comfortable environment isn’t just for the kids, though. The Aroras want everyone to feel comfortable with their care and treatment plan.

“A lot of our patients say they have been to the dentist and they receive a massive treatment plan. They don’t trust the dentist or they don’t think they need all the work that’s presented,” he says. “We try to create a no-pressure environment. We try to explain everything to our patients, listen to their concerns and make sure that we are all on the same page and know when or why certain treatments are needed.”

With their family practice, the couple is able to take the time to get to know patients, their challenges and concerns. While Arora says insurance companies sometimes dictate the process, he works through that with the patient and makes sure they understand the process, and are able to prioritize and plan their treatment.

“When I was growing up, my parents had to pay 100 percent out of pocket for my dental checkups which made my visits very inconsistent . Now, more people have dental insurance. We feel that each generation should have better care than the last,” he adds.
