Mount Clemens Mom Deborah Jo 'DJ' Ross

The brightest star in DJ Ross’ life is right here on Earth in son Orion, born in late May. Ross and her husband, Justin, welcomed their first child after a relatively quick labor. “I liked that we had our midwife with us without any doctors or extra people in the room, yet we were still in a hospital in case there was any need for intervention.” The new family is digging “the coolest experience of their lives.”

Gender reveal? Yes. For years, my clairvoyant friend has told me a baby boy was waiting for me, and I just had a feeling.

Labor and delivery experience: It all happened so fast once my water broke at 3:30 a.m. I almost didn’t make it into the delivery room before Orion was born!

What you wish you’d known: How hard breast-feeding would be. After about a week and many tears, I hired a lactation consultant. It was the best thing ever.

Best part of being a new parent: Having a beautiful, healthy little boy. We can stare at him all day.

Favorite baby gift: Our car seat/stroller combination.

Favorite parent gift: Our neighbors gifted us a box of different local craft beers to celebrate with after Orion was born.

Favorite web source: The Newman Breastfeeding Clinic has a ton of information and videos about breast-feeding.

Hospital stay prep tips: Pack adult diapers. They never really tell you that you’ll need some too.

Best part of raising a family in Mount Clemens: It’s a small city with a lot of history. It’s also very close to all our family and where we work.

Dream for your child: We hope that we can provide him with enough positive experiences to feed his mind and soul to shape him into a good human being.

Baby name background: One of the most recognizable constellations is Orion, and as a child, Justin was fascinated with the stars and space. So we put it on our short list, and when we first saw him, it was an easy decision. Orion’s middle name comes from Justin’s grandfather, who unfortunately passed away a few months before he could meet his first great-grandchild.
