Breastfeeding moms looking to nurse or pump with a little privacy won’t need to resort to restrooms or first aid stations anymore at Comerica Park.
The home of the Detroit Tigers recently announced the addition of a new breastfeeding suite. Unveiled on June 25, the climate-controlled nursing room has two couches and a TV, according to Aileen Villarreal, media relations director for the Detroit Tigers.
The nursing suite is located in the former 200-level guest service office and can be accessed from the main concourse using the elevators behind section 112 in the Tiger Club Lobby.
A family restroom is located directly across from the nursing suite and there’s a guest service kiosk in front of the room.
Of course, breastfeeding moms are still welcome to nurse in their seats at the stadium. Michigan moms who nurse in public are protected under the Breastfeeding Anti-Discrimination Act, which was signed into law in 2014 and gives women the right to nurse anywhere that is open to the general public.
The idea of nursing suites in ballparks isn’t new. In March, the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati opened a nursing suite in response to an increasing number of women asking where they could nurse, Huffington Post reported.
The nursing suite at the Cincinnati Reds’ stadium was sponsored by Pampers.
“We know that baseball is traditionally a family-friendly sport, and we understand how stressful and difficult it can be for moms to find a quiet feeding space for their little ones in a public place,” a Pampers spokesperson told The Huffington Post after the suite opened. “In support of Pampers mission to care for the happy, healthy development of babies, we are excited that this Pampers nursing suite will give a quiet place for moms to feed, care and diaper their babies in a comfortable and private environment.”
