September is back-to-school season – the time of year for parent-teacher conferences, well-worn markers and teens getting disciplined (well, sort of). Here’s a mix of five stats, facts and figures Metro Parent found to help metro Detroit moms and dads ring in the first month of fall.

A study found this percentage of teachers want to know about a major illness or accident in the family, yet only 21 percent of parents usually inform their child’s teacher about these things. The vast majority of teachers also want to know about students’ mood changes.


This percentage of parents admits to not enforcing punishments when their teen breaks a rule, according to a recent study from Liberty Mutual Insurance. The reason? For 38 percent of parents, it’s just too inconvenient. Start fresh this fall!
