Peter Rabbit Organics Fruit Puree Pouches

When’s the last time you saw an ingredients list that looked like this:

Organic bananas 61%
Organic mango 23%
Organic orange 16%

If you’re waiting for me to start listing things like Disodium Phosphate, Yellow 5, Whey Protein Isolate or some other ingredient that’s unrecognizable, you can stop. In Peter Rabbit Organics 100% Pure Fruit Snack, there’s no added sugar, no preservatives and nothing artificial.

It’s simply pureed organic fruit for kids (and yes, even parents) that comes in a handy little pouch. You don’t need a spoon or a bowl or even a refrigerator. It truly is healthy food on the go. Heck, the pouch is even BPA-free. They’re enough to make you forgo applesauce cups and granola bars for good.

This new product, which is a hit in England, is now being released in the States. In fact, it’s sold at some Starbucks stores. Other than that, you can find it at Whole Foods Market and some other grocery stores and natural food sellers. Each pouch is $1.79, but you can buy a case of 10 at Amazon.com for $15.08 last time I checked, which works out to about $1.50 a pouch.

The flavor, whose ingredients I listed above, is just what it sounds like: "Mango, Banana and Orange." But it also comes in "Apple and Grape" and "Strawberry and Banana." I’ve only tried the trio-combo. I slurped it right out of the pouch, room temperature, and it was delicious – naturally sweet and satisfying. What’s particularly nice about this product is that it is real fruit, not just the juice – so you get the fiber and other nutrients from the flesh of the fruit.

The directions say that you can eat it right from the pouch or serve it on cereal or oatmeal. That’s an idea! Any leftovers last two days and must be refrigerated. I’ve already got my sights on trying out the other two flavor combos. I think I might actually freeze them to see if it turns out as a nice slushy for the summer season. I bet they will. I also bet that if you’re looking for a healthy snack for your child, this one will be a hit!
